Leicester Cathedral - January 2015

Visit to Site - 7th January 2015

When Nicholson’s panelling enclosing the crossing piers was taken down, it became apparent there was severe salt damage to their bases. The repair of these was added to the contract, with FWA’s banker mason carrying out the repairs to the stone pier bases by neatly cutting out the most defective stone faces and inserting new blocks of White Hollington sandstone, which we found  to be the best stone match available.

The relaid floor to Chapel of Christ the King has finally been completed and it looks good. It took FWA longer than anticipated. They are looking forward to laying new and big stone slabs to Ambulatory and Sanctuary flooring, which should be quicker and more straight forward.

The East Screen has been moved to its new position, minus its back panelling, and the extra joinery pieces to allow the Chancel Screen to fit in its new location have been delivered to site from NHR Joinery. These are temporarily being stored in Chapel of Christ the King prior to being fitting.
