Merchant Taylors’ Design and Technology Block competition

About The Project

Merchant Taylors' School is an independent boys’ school, originally located in the City of London. Since 1933 it has been located on 250 acres of grounds at Sandy Lodge in the Three Rivers district of Hertfordshire. The school identified a site and ran an RIBA design competition. Our solution addresses the design of the classrooms and workshops, focusing on flexibility and the links between them, as well as considering how they would be serviced. The social spaces are at the heart of the scheme, close to the reception, and are large enough to be used either for teaching or displaying work.
