About The Project
In November 2009 we were asked by the Old Fort Trust to prepare a feasibility study for the re-use of the redundant Coastguard Tower at Shoreham Old Fort, West Sussex. The aspiration of the Trust was to use the former coastguard tower, built within and on top of an early 19th century coastal defence fort, as a centre for art and nature education, primarily for the children from some of the deprived surrounding areas. The Fort, which is owned by the Shoreham Port Authority, is Grade II listed and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Our study investigated various development options, including a residential component, which ultimately proved that the scheme was not financially viable.
