Some fabulous events are taking place this Christmas season at the National Centre for Early Music in York, a Grade 1 listed building which vHH helped to upgrade in 1997 to create a much-needed base for the York Early Music Foundation.
Funded primarily by the Arts Council, as well as a variety of supporting organisations, the project included upgrading and restoring the medieval church to meet the needs of varying types and size of performance as well as many alternative uses such as teaching, conferences and exhibitions.The roof was completely rebuilt for enhanced acoustics and a variable lighting system supports the flexible use of space.
After nearly twenty years since the completion of the project, the York Early Music Foundation is thriving and has a packed, exciting schedule of show coming up. We would highly recommend a visit! The building also houses office accommodation, meeting rooms and a green room in a separate extension, connected by a glazed bridge, with facilities for hire which are regularly booked up.
