As part of our first phase of reordering at Leicester Cathedral we took part in the cathedrals competition to find a designer for their new Cathedra. Francesco Draisci of Draisci Studio responded with a beautiful, fitting and considered winning proposal which is unashamedly contemporary and deeply sympathetic to the reordered space. When set in place the piece embodies the traditional ethos of the Cathedra entirely and manages to exude visual drama at the same time as calm restraint. His design was then beautifully realised by Benchmark Joinery, and installed at the same time as our new high altar. We are thrilled to congratulate Francesco on being commended at the Blueprint Awards recently for this work, as well as being currently nominated for the FX Design awards, to be announced at the end of November.
