Our newly completed primary school in the growing community of Houlton, Rugby, was recently opened and is now officially providing the area with quality education for children aged 4 to 11. St Gabriel’s CofE Academy is a partnership between the Coventry Diocesan Board of Education and Houlton’s master developers Urban&Civic.
The children were delighted as the Bishop of Coventry blessed the school and conducted the official building dedication, amongst other building stakeholders and members of the design team and community. The ceremony took place on 18th September 2018 and marks the completion of the first phase of the primary school construction.
The school will be completed in three phases, expanding as increased numbers move into the community. The key communal spaces have been delivered in the first phase, with the modular approach utilised by adding simple classroom blocks for each further phase as the school needs to grow.
Internally, the spaces have been carefully designed to create a range of comfortable, stimulating areas. Good acoustics, daylighting and natural ventilation enhance a sense of wellbeing through the learning environments within the school. Passive supervision has been given particular attention both internally and externally, encouraging flexible and independent learning, with good communication and sharing of resources between teachers and classes.
We look forward to seeing the school full of life, as children and staff enjoy the spaces for years to come.
