We were pleased to see that One Click LCA has become the world’s first software officially validated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA), aligning with the updated RICS WLCA Standard (2nd Edition). This validation helps strengthen confidence in consistent carbon assessment methodologies across the industry, enabling more reliable comparison of results as we collectively move towards a net-zero built environment.
We are strong advocates of the One Click sustainability platform, which allows users to to carry out Life Cycle Assessments quickly and efficiently. Its extensive Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) database, combined with tools to assess circularity, life-cycle cost and biodiversity, helps identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact from the earliest design stages.
For Waterbeach Barracks Primary School, we used One Click to review our material selections throughout the early design stages, resulting in a Stage 3 assessment predicted Whole Life Carbon of just 165 kgCO₂e/m²/yr over a 60-year period, including PV arrays, with 48% embodied carbon and 52% operational.
We have also used OneClick to track embodied carbon on the new primary accommodation at Houlton School, supporting decisions from early construction strategy through to current product selection with the contractor. Alongside Passivhaus certification, this helps ensure the lowest possible Whole Life Carbon for the project.
For us, measuring and reducing carbon is embedded in every project — it’s simply part of the design process, not an optional extra.
