Reserved Matters Approval for new Houlton Passivhaus Primary Facilities

Planning approval granted for through-school primary facilities at Houlton School

We are excited to announce that we have received Reserved Matters Approval for our new Passivhaus-designed primary facilities at Houlton School.

The new buildings will transform the existing award-winning Houlton secondary school into an all-through school, with an age range of 4-18.

The design includes two new teaching blocks for up to three additional forms of entry for students, with new playgrounds and shared sports facilities for younger children, which extends the offer of the existing School community facilities, as well as improved active travel access, and enhanced School Safety Zone measures.

The new school is intended to achieve Passivhaus certification, and to provide its over 80% of its annual energy demand from its own PVs. Embodied carbon is minimised by using a lean timber structure on an optimised raft foundations, woodfibre insulation, and by careful choice of building components and finishes.

We are proud to be part of the excellent team delivering a second key element of community infrastructure for the expanding Houlton development, and helping U&C deliver their masterplan for the sustainable urban extension at Houlton and realise their exemplary sustainability goals.
