See the Commissioners House rooftop up close! Book now

As 1703 roof gets stripped for repairs, spaces are available to book for live site tours

At our Commissioners House project in the The Historic Dockyard Chatham, the roof has been stripped and we have been finalising details of the new carpentry of the roof and dormers, ready for the new lead and tiles. A major objective is to introduce ventilation to the underside of the lead, to maximise its durability, over the amazing historic structure.

This June, the Dockyard Trust are opening up the rooftop of Commissioner’s House to the public for the first time, providing a one-off opportunity to experience the workings of a live construction site and see aspects of the building from a completely new perspective.

Although the project is supported by the The National Lottery Heritage Fund and other bodies, more fundraising is still needed, and so all proceeds from the rooftop tours will go directly towards the project, giving visitors the chance to contribute in a meaningful way while enjoying an unforgettable experience.
