Because of Nicholson’s use of cement mortar, it was
impossible to salvage sufficient Cadeby stone for reuse at east end step. Having
measured all the retained slabs, a new layout was devised by us and FWAs masons
with the old Cadeby stone to be placed around Agnes Vaughan’s central ledger
slab west of the east altar. New Cadeby slabs, generally in bigger slab sizes, are
to be placed north and south to make us the rest of this area.
