The construction of Richard IIIs tomb vault starts in the centre of the chancel. Slightly below this and to the side lies the deep vault initially discovered, in which the various remains found in the floor have now been carefully reinterred.

At the east end yet more vaults are found, some with their coffins still in place. Everyone is desperate now to complete the excavation and be able to start building up again. We immediately start discussing how best to treat these, with the date for placing the new slab looming on the programme
