Internal spaces at St. Gabriel’s Academy in Houlton progressing rapidly
Above on the left you can see that rooflight reveals have been cast in concrete
with a curved edge, to allow light to spill into the back of the classrooms. The
central opening will house a wind-catcher to passively ventilate the room.
On the right, is a shot from inside the hyperbolic paraboloid roof! Look closely and you can see the roof gently twisting from corner to corner.
A generous corridor creates a breakout
space outside the infant classrooms. The north lights at high level will be
emphasised when the curved ceiling goes in.
