Geel School Competition
About The Project
Our first competition for the Flemish government’s Scholen van Morgen programme was in the small country town of Geel. We worked in collaboration with SMAK Architects and used our experience of designing BSF schools and FE colleges. We were one of four shortlisted practices. The brief was for a new workshop block and a teaching block, as well as a sports centre on an adjacent site. There are a few historic buildings at one end of the site and a dismal landscape of an acre and a half of concrete paving. We included proposals for improving the landscape, although it was not in the brief. The competition was won by Herman Hertzberger’s office. The following year we entered, and won, the competition for College OLVTD, in the small town of Eeklo.
