West Ham Station, Jubilee Line Extension
About The Project
West Ham Station lies between Stratford and Canning Town
Stations on the Jubilee Line extension, where it runs above ground. The lofty
ticket hall with its banks of escalators and strongly expressed structure is
linked by a bridge to four rail lines and a main road, as well as the Jubilee
Line platform and upper level concourse. This station is the only one on the JLE
to make overt reference to Charles Holden’s 1930s underground stations, and
stands as a timeless and dignified civic landmark. By day the ticket hall and
bridge link create a welcoming arcaded entrance that addresses a tree-planted
paved square, while at night the building glows like a lighthouse as its glass
blocks are lit up from inside.
