Wilson Court, Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge
About The Project
Wilson Court is a direct response to the buildings from the two preceding
periods of development on the Fitzwilliam College site, by Denys Lasdun and
MacCormac Jamieson Prichard. Wilson
Court continues the perimeter development concept of the earlier buildings,
observing the scale, treatment and materials, while still having an
individuality of its own. It houses 48 acoustically independent student rooms
as well as a lecture theatre and conference rooms in a three-storey L-shaped
brick building, enclosing an intimate courtyard. The elevation pattern
corresponds to the configurations of the study bedrooms with their rectangular
and square planes, some of which intermittently protrude and recess creating a
dynamic relief to the brick facades.
