How We Work

Leading teams, working collaboratively and thinking creatively

Teamwork

The best buildings are the result of a shared vision and strong relationships, between the client, the architects and the contractors.

Our architect teams are chosen for their specific skills and experience, and stay on the project for its duration. It’s no coincidence that our success in building relationships and leading projects has led to long-term relationships with the best consultants, and some valued repeat clients.

Creative thinking

Finding solutions which are environmentally and economically sustainable requires flexibility and creativity, as does the way we present our ideas. We use a range of formats to present designs, including visits to similar projects, and the use of rough sketches and 3D models, to ensure that everyone can contribute to the creative process.

Whenever and wherever possible we draw on our experience to exceed clients’ expectations.

Embracing complexity

We relish the challenge of working on complex projects with multiple stakeholders to consider. Often these are for new buildings on particularly difficult sites or with an especially demanding brief, but we also promote the imaginative re-use of existing buildings as a cost-effective and environmentally responsible option.

‘We have had an enormously positive experience… The architects have been fantastic, they listened to what we wanted, they worked within the budget, and they produced what I think is going to be the best school in tower hamlets.’
Cath Smith, Bow School Headteacher

‘vHH understood our vision for our new school and responded to our brief in an inventive as well as practical way.’

DARREN LYON, HEADTEACHER, SIR THOMAS FREMANTLE SCHOOL

‘vHH’s involvement in this project was critical to its success… the innovative design concepts have enabled us to overcome the many challenges faced when finding a new use for a Scheduled Ancient Monument.’

RICHARD HOLDSWORTH MBE. PRESERVATION AND EDUCATION DIRECTOR. CHATHAM HISTORIC DOCKYARD TRUST

‘In my experience vHH is both large enough to have a breadth of capacity and experience, but at the same time of a size which enables a very positive client-architect interaction. Cathedrals are complex clients with many stakeholders’ interests to bear in mind.’
