Initial demolition phase

The removal of the single storey lean-to accommodation along the street, in the initial demolition phase of our contractor Borras’ programme, revealed a surprise – beautiful tile and brick patterned infill and arched brickwork. The School, and the Cambridge conservation officer, agreed with our revised proposal to restore these arches and include them in the design. The arches and infill were restored and the brickwork pattern proposed below them was adjusted to be more in keeping with the patterns within the arches. Discoveries in the historic fabric can become opportunities.
