Quintin Kynaston School

Quintin Kynaston Academy is a new 9 Form Entry secondary school of approximately 13,500m2, incorporating a Respite and Re-engagement unit and sixth form. It is part of the comprehensive redevelopment of the Marlborough Hill campus. Having worked with Bouygues on BSF sample schools we were asked to take on the design of Quintin Kynaston from Stage C as they were concerned they would not achieve planning consent. Initially our focus was to engaging with the local community and redesign of the elevations in order to achieve planning consent.  The design of the two main wings takes account of the 6 metre fall across the site to reduce the bulk by sinking the eastern wing into the slope, and creates a series of internal and external social spaces at the heart of the school.
