The Migration Museum Project aims to fill a clear gap in our cultural understanding by creating a museum to relate the role that migration has played in the making of Britain. We were appointed in 2013 to undertake a feasibility study and business plan for the creation of a nomadic museum from shipping containers. The study is informed by previous proposals made by the design team for the BFI sub-zero film stores, amongst other precedents. Produced with Costain Heritage and Gardiner and Theobald, our the study tests the viability of various nomadic formats which would be able to tour the country and includes alternatives to the expensive option of using containers. The study provides the foundations for the next stages of the project and allows the Migration Museum Project to identify appropriate partners and funders.
