The Concept
vHH have teamed up with Bow School, The House Mill & The Line to suggest an ‘on-foot’ tour along part of the route of the The Line sculpture walk, to take in a variety of Open House experiences over the weekend of 17th & 18th September.
The Route
The route starts at the River Lea on the south side of Stratford High Street. The path starts on the opposite side of the river to The Print House bar and restaurant. The walk along The Line not only leads you past and near to Open House events, but fulfils its main purpose, which is to steer you towards beautiful and enticing pieces of public sculpture situated along the route.
The Places
As you pass the Victorian ‘Cathedral of Sewage’ at Abbey Mills, you see the London 2012 Three Mills Lock, and then arrive at House Mill, a grade 1 listed 18th century tidal mill set by the river in the heart of London’s East End. The Mill also houses a Gallery, which will be showcasing traditional arts and crafts.
Past this, and you reach the huge 1500 pupil Bow School, the last of Tower Hamlet’s BSF schools to be built and an exemplar of the scheme – with innovative modern design to mitigate against its roadside location including rooftop sports pitches.
What is Open House?
Open House has a huge variety of events and buildings open for the Open House weekend – our aim is to allow people in the area to see at a glance, with our simple map, some of the other activities on offer, whilst taking an enjoyable walk along the East End riverside.
